The concept of open relationships has been around since the 70s with a few distinctions here and there such as the number of partners and the boundaries in place. You both need to go through a process of self-reflection, self-awareness and management and process your emotions so that you are able to deal with any conflicts that may arise, set boundaries that will help make the process easier and build a relationship that you can both enjoy for years to come.
Open mindedness is essential in any relationship to foster communication, closeness and growth and allow you to accept your partner as they are. However, in an open minded relationship, this is even more crucial as the setup of the relationship can bring out jealousy and envy and breed resentment between partners. Communication and understanding can help prevent these pitfalls and the work needs to start right from the very start. Being honest in your application, choosing the partner that best suits you and asking the right questions before taking the relationship from the virtual world and into the brick and mortar restaurants, cinemas, parks, hotels and rooms that you will hopefully be spending a lot of time in with your significant others.
